Wolfsburg have reportedly stepped up talks with Fiorentina for Mario Gomez, which puts the Simone Zaza move in doubt.
According to SportItalia pundit Alfredo Pedullà and Mediaset Premium, German club Wolfsburg are going in strong for veteran hitman Gomez.
The 31-year-old is not part of Paulo Sousa’s plans in Florence and won’t return to Besiktas after his loan spell because of fears over the security situation in Turkey.
Gomez would be available for around €12m, which is less than half the sum requested by Juventus for Zaza.
Despite visiting the training ground last week, there has been surprisingly little progress in negotiations over personal terms between Zaza and Wolfsburg.
With this Gomez report emerging, it could suggest the Bundesliga outfit are covering themselves with a different alternative.
