The president met some hurdles in his ambition to turn the Giallorossi into one of the great clubs of Europe, but the team has certainly shown flashes of progress under his leadership.

“We're not that distant from being able to compete with the strongest teams in the world,” Pallotta told Sports Illustrated. “I don't feel like we're not competitive in that sense. There are many good young players. Luciano [Spalletti] likes his team.

"Unless you get into the 21st century in terms of a stadium, social media, branding, sponsorships, all that type of stuff, you're never going to compete at those top levels. You're just not. I think Roma is the most undervalued sports team and brand in the world. If we do it right, Roma is worth multi-billions with the whole thing we want to put together. It's an incredible opportunity.

“Francesco can't even take a walk in Rome. It's crazy! If I go out for lunch with him somewhere and I think we managed to slip away, by the time we're done we come out and find at least 120 people.

“He told me that when we'll win the Scudetto, one morning he'll enter the Colosseum in secret.”
