Sinisa Mihajlovic joked about Gianluigi Donnarumma’s penalty save as Torino almost completed an epic comeback at Milan.

“I think we played open football and for long periods we dominated. We deserved a victory, not a defeat, but we made too many mistakes on the three goals we conceded,” the Toro Coach told Sky Sport Italia after the 3-2 result.

“We changed tactical system this summer, there were two players who arrived the day before yesterday, so some misunderstandings are bound to happen.

“I saw some of the football that I want to see, but with these mistakes it’s impossible to bring home a positive result.”

Adem Ljajic was stretchered off in the first half-hour with a knee problem.

“I don’t want to seek excuses. All teams have injured players and ours would be different with them in it, but that’s natural.

“We made individual errors and that is what cost us.”

Mihajlovic launched Donnarumma’s career at the age of 16 last season and couldn’t resist a smile after the last-gasp penalty save on Andrea Belotti.

“If I’d have known he was going to save the penalty, I wouldn’t have given him his debut!

“I smiled because I knew Gallo was going to miss. Unfortunately, I’m almost always right. I went to reassure him afterwards, these things happen and the next time we get a penalty he won’t be taking it!”
