Multiple reports are spreading fast that Napoli are in talks with Fiorentina to swap Manolo Gabbiadini for Nikola Kalinic.

Gabbiadini’s performance in the 2-2 draw with Pescara only reiterated why he cannot simply replace Gonzalo Higuain in a centre-forward role, as they have very different characteristics.

While there is interest from Everton for €25m, Napoli’s main issue is finding a suitable replacement for Pipita, so Kalinic would be a ready-made alternative.

There are concerns here too when it comes to a straight swap, because Kalinic is 28 years old and his goals dried up considerably in the second half of last season.

Gabbiadini is still only 24 and more versatile as a striker.

This interest in Kalinic also suggests Napoli are preparing to lose Juventus striker Simone Zaza to West Ham United.
