Milan and Cagliari are at each other's necks over the alleged controversies in the transfer of Mati Fernandez.
The former Fiorentina midfielder looked set to join the Rossoblu, but a last-minute phone call by Coach Vincenzo Montella convinced him to head over to the Diavolo instead.
Sporting director Stefano Capozucca accused the Milanese club of collaborating with mediator Pablo Cosentino, who has been banned from football-related activities over a match-fixing scandal.
Milan replied with an official statement, the details of which were later confirmed by their lawyer Leandro Cantamessa.
“The statements released by Stefano Capozucca on the subject of Mr Pablo Cosentino's intervention in the Mati Fernandez affair are false,” reads a note on the club's website. “AC Milan reserves the right on the matter to every other evaluation and [legal] action.”
The disagreement could very well escalate, as the Gazzetta dello Sport reports that an investigation could be kicked off by the federal court.
The Corriere della Sera also reports of a heretofore unknown detail of the exchange, claiming that on Wednesday night Capozucca sent a phone text to joint-CEO Adriano Galliani.
“Thanks to you I'm going to get fired,” reads the Cagliari director's message.
