New Coach Ivan Juric warned “safety is not enough for the fans” when it comes to Genoa this season.

The tactician is in his first Serie A experience, taking over after he took Crotone to their first ever promotion.

“The affection of so many people remains with me from Crotone, but I love Genoa because as a city it is very welcoming to foreigners,” the Croatian told SportWeek.

He spent much of his playing career at Genoa too, so knows the club well.

“Genoa’s problem is something many clubs of the same level have: deciding what you want to become. It is difficult to grow because of economic limitations, but the risk is to ‘settle’ on safety and that alone is not enough for the fans.

“(President Enrico) Preziosi asked me to save the team from relegation and get the best out of young players. We will try to play good football and entertain the crowds, aiming high.”
