Gonzalo Higuain has made it into Paolo Sorrentino’s latest TV series The Young Pope, referencing “faith and betrayal.”

The striker was a hero for Napoli fans, but activated his €90m release clause to join Scudetto rivals Juventus.

Unexpectedly, this issue made it into the Venice Film Festival and the presentation of a new lavish television series called The Young Pope.

The character of Cardinal Voiello, played by Silvio Orlando, is a big Napoli fan and we often see his phone with images of Higuain on there. Should they be edited out after the shock transfer to Juve?

“The Church often deals with themes like faith and betrayal,” replied Oscar-winning director Sorrentino.

“Maintaining the image of Higuain with a Napoli shirt helps to remind people of these two concepts.”
