Graziano Pellè reveals he planned Ciro Immobile’s goal in the 3-1 victory in Israel and “Italy are always ready when the game counts.”

Despite his transfer to Shandong Luneng, Pellè continues his impressive scoring rate for the Azzurri and also set up Immobile in this World Cup qualifier.

“I am a striker, so the team expects goals and assists. I provided both tonight, but one can always improve,” he told Rai Sport.

“As usual, Italy are always ready when the game actually counts for something. We had an extra few days to work with the Coach and his wonderful staff after the friendly defeat to France.

“We knew that we had to remain fully concentrated, as the fans fired up the hosts and it is a tough arena to play in, but we proved we fight to the end even a man down.

“The most important thing was to get the three points tonight.”

Pellè flicked on a Gigi Buffon goal kick for Immobile to surge past defenders and score the third goal.

“As soon as Immobile came on, I told him to run into the space, as just before then we had a chance with Eder and he was too tired to sprint past the defender. I also told Gigi to hit it long and the move worked out perfectly.”

How did Pellè recover from the criticism and disappointment of his missed penalty in the Euro 2016 quarter-final against Germany?

“I have many defects, but my quality is that I think positive, I’m a tenacious person who always wants to do better. Ugly moments can happen in football, but it doesn’t end there. I think I can give more to the Nazionale and will try to continue along my path.

“If the opportunity and necessity arrived to take a penalty, then I would do it again. There are players better than me from the spot, but I am not afraid to take a penalty if needed.”
