“We are a team who need to run hard in order to impose ourselves on the game, so I want to see a strong reaction after our defeat at Fiorentina,” said the Coach.

“It’ll be very hot, but we will try to take the initiative and be wary not to use up all our energy straight away. We must remain balanced.

“Last season against Lazio was one of our best performances of the entire campaign, showing great aggression and consistency. The lads know that intensity is essential, otherwise we risk becoming an average team and we really cannot afford that.”

Chievo are ready to field Jonathan De Guzman after his move from Napoli, while Antonio Floro Flores and Mariano Izco are also back from injury.

“De Guzman is an extra weapon in our armoury. He needs to improve physically, as he lacks match fitness, but has great potential. My job right now is seeing who can give more than others.

“Would I be happy with a draw against Lazio? In all honesty, I can’t say that. Getting a result against Lazio is always positive, but we can beat them and it’s not right to rule out something that is attainable. We want to get the maximum out of every match, even the most difficult.

“Lazio will cause us problems, especially running into space, while their defence is solid and also did well against Juventus. Our strikers must pull out all the stops to get through.”

Chievo squad for Lazio: Sorrentino, Seculin, Bressan, Confente; Spolli, Gamberini, Sardo, Cacciatore, Cesar, Dainelli, Gobbi, Frey; Hetemaj, Castro, Radovanovic, Birsa, Rigoni, Izco, De Guzman, Bastien; Pellissier, Inglese, Meggiorini, Parigini, Floro Flores
