“If we win, I will shave my head live on the show this evening!” Ferrero told Tele Radio Stereo.

“I was in the Curva Sud many times. Scraping a bit of money together when I was a kid, I’d even get a more expensive seat.

“This Roma side is very strong with some fantastic players. They ought to be winning this game if they are targeting the Scudetto, the Champions League and building a new stadium. We have lower ambitions and not the presumption of winning, but we do have Coach Marco Giampaolo and that means we can fight it out with everyone.”

Ferrero said this week that he preferred Lazio President Claudio Lotito to Roma’s James Pallotta.

“I know Lotito and he’s very amusing. He’s got that belly and speaks Greek, so looks like a proper Professor. I’ve never seen Pallotta, but if I see him at the stadium today, I’ll say hello.

“Football is my business, but if you watch a game thinking about revenue, it’s the death of the sport. I love football because it’s theatre.”

Samp have frozen Cassano out in a contract dispute, while Roma defender Castan had joined on loan only to move on to Torino a few weeks later.

“Cassano is someone who drives with the handbrake on,” smiled Ferrero.

“Castan is a great defender and Vincenzo Montella really liked him, but with the arrival of Giampaolo he was no longer certain of a starting spot and preferred to join Torino.”
