Morata: 'I couldn't join Napoli'

Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata confirms “Napoli approached me this summer, but I could never go there out of respect for Juventus.”

The Spain international spent two years at Juve before Real Madrid activated their buy-back option for €30m.

This evening he was decisive with a last-gasp goal to beat Sporting CP 2-1 in the Champions League opener.

“I was sad to leave Juventus, but this is football,” Morata told Mediaset Premium.

“Juve is my second home and I want them to win always, except when they are playing against Real Madrid. They wanted me here in Madrid and I am a professional.

“I was at the best club in Italy with Juventus.”

There were reports that Napoli had approached Morata and Real Madrid after Gonzalo Higuain joined Juve for €90m.

“It’s true, Napoli spoke to the agent who is representing me, but I could never go there out of respect for Juve, which is my second home.”
