Adriano Galliani claims Milan appointed Vincenzo Montella over Frank de Boer, despite admitting the latter “doesn’t seem so bad to me”.

Speaking to Milan TV after Tuesday’s 2-0 win against Lazio, Galliani explained how Montella beat off competition from De Boer – who ultimately took up employment at arch-rivals Inter – former caretaker Cristian Brocchi, then-Empoli boss Marco Giampaolo and two “giants with great experience”.

“We went so many years without ever changing Coaches,” the joint-CEO said.

“We went so many years without ever changing Coaches,” the joint-CEO said.

“Montella is a Coach who tries to give an identity to our team. This is something that appeals to the President Berlusconi, myself and I think even the fans.

“Montella was one of six candidates, including Brocchi. Two were giants with great experience and the other three were Montella, De Boer and Giampaolo.

“De Boer, as seen by [how he fared against] Juventus, doesn’t seem so bad to me.”
