Maurizio Sarri and Marek Hamsik were unhappy with Antonio Damato’s failure to award Napoli two penalties in their stalemate with Genoa on Wednesday for a Lucas Ocampos handball and foul on Arkadiusz Milik.

“I saw Genoa-Napoli from China. It was a beautiful match between two teams that faced each other openly,” read a statement from the President on the Partenopei’s official website.

“There were some unfavourable refereeing decisions, but the referees’ decisions, for better or worse, are to be respected.

“They are the rules of our football and if we participate in this competition then we mustn’t look for any kind of excuse.

“Although we have the fifth [highest] turnover, we’ve invested 128m in the market this year in order to give Neapolitans and the Coach a competitive team, and from what has emerged so far, it seems that Napoli are very competitive.

“I just have to congratulate the team and the Coach for the last game. Forza Napoli always!”
