Inter have reportedly won their case regarding Ricky Alvarez, which will see them pocket €10.5m from Sunderland.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has upheld FIFA’s decision to favour Inter over Sunderland.

The Black Cats loaned Alvarez for the 2014-15 season, but their agreement stipulated an obligatory purchase option of €10.5m at the end of the campaign if they avoided relegation from the Premier League.

The Black Cats loaned Alvarez for the 2014-15 season, but their agreement stipulated an obligatory purchase option of €10.5m at the end of the campaign if they avoided relegation from the Premier League.

Sunderland refused to pay the fee, despite staying up, on the grounds Inter failed to notify them that the midfielder needed knee surgery.

Inter have always denied this to be the case, and the issue was subsequently brought up with FIFA, which sided with the Nerazzurri.

Alvarez has since resurrected his career at Sampdoria, who signed him as a de facto free agent at the start of the year.
