Napoli gained more fans this year, while those supporting Juventus and Inter fell, according to a new survey.

According to the Osservatorio Demos and La Repubblica newspaper, Napoli now represent 13 per cent of all football fans in Italy.

That is an increase from last year’s 10 per cent and the only big club to have actually gained supporters.

Milan and Inter now have 14 per cent each, so the Partenopei are right up there with the most popular clubs in the Peninsula.

Juventus remain comfortably the most supported side, though their fans have dropped from 35 per cent to 34.

Inter’s recent problems saw them lose ground, from 17 per cent to 14 per cent of people identifying as Nerazzurri supporters.

Milan remain stable at 14 per cent, as do Roma at seven per cent of the population polled.

Lazio and Fiorentina represent two per cent of the fanbase, as the Aquile dropped one per cent.

There is in general a big drop in those who consider themselves fans of any club, down to 38 per cent from 58 per cent seven years ago.

Juventus are the most popular, but also easily the most unpopular club in Italy, as 51 per cent of those polled dislike them above all other opponents.

Inter come in second at a distant 23 per cent.
