Spain Coach Julen Lopetegui feels Italy have not changed much in recent years and confirms Diego Costa will start rather than Alvaro Morata.

The World Cup qualifier kicks off at the Juventus Stadium in Turin tomorrow at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

“We have studied the last meeting (a 2-0 Italy victory at Euro 2016) and are ready to react in case this match should go the same way,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We have studied the last meeting (a 2-0 Italy victory at Euro 2016) and are ready to react in case this match should go the same way,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

Vicente Del Bosque was in charge at the time, while Giampiero Ventura has since replaced Antonio Conte on the Azzurri bench.

“Italy had a fairly similar style of football from Cesare Prandelli through Conte and Ventura. There are different details, but the base system is fairly stable, both in defence and attack.

“They have automatic movements that work very well. They also have Gigi Buffon, a living legend of football history in Italy. He had a great career, was very scrupulous and reached the maximum level both for club and country.”

When the Juventus Stadium was picked as the venue for this World Cup qualifier, many expected Morata to face his former Bianconeri teammates, but that won’t be the case.

“Diego Costa will start tomorrow and the others you already know,” continued Lopetegui.

“It will be an important match that will take us to the limits of what we can do in terms of play and training. We are here to bring home a result.

“Morata is in good shape, but it’s not easy to play consistently for Real Madrid.”

Jose Callejon of Napoli received a Spain recall after several years in the wilderness.

“We had already been tracking Callejon before calling him up. We think he can help us with different options to what we currently have and he’s in a strong period of form.”
