The Azzurri were leading in Skopje, then went from 1-0 up to 2-1 down in the space of 120 seconds. Eventually, a Ciro Immobile brace grabbed the victory in stoppages.

“They scored two goals in quick succession and it all became more complicated. We found the strength to fight back again and take these fundamental points home,” Parolo told Rai Sport.

“The lesson we take from this is that we must be always alert, play at 100 per cent of our abilities with head, heart and legs. For those 10-15 minutes we seemed to lose our heads and we paid for it.”

What did Coach Giampiero Ventura say to the squad after the final whistle?

“Ventura told us he was pleased with the result and the fightback, but we will analyse this game to learn from it.”

Lazio midfielder Parolo was also asked about the decision to freeze out Graziano Pellè after refusing to shake the Coach’s hand.

“Pellè knows he made a mistake and apologised to everyone, including the team. These decisions are made from above and we just have to focus on the pitch.”
