Maurizio Sarri admits individual errors cost Napoli against Besiktas. “We’re too preoccupied and feel the pressure.”

They had been unbeaten in 19 European home games, but this 3-2 home loss was their third consecutive defeat in all competition.

“At the moment we are making life difficult for ourselves,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“The team was well in the game until the missed penalty, which was followed by 10 minutes of being very passive. The sensation is we play well in fits and starts, but are playing with this worry hanging over us and that makes things tougher.

“Tonight we were more determined than against Roma and that can be a small step towards rediscovering ourselves. We conceded the goals in situations that had little to do with team defensive movements.

“The first goal was a misplaced pass, so was the second and on the third we were just naive – plus it was offside.

“I had some positive sensations from the overall performance, even if the events didn’t help us. We must defend with more organisation and I saw glimpses of our usual attacking style.

“We must react and get back to enjoying our football without all this preoccupation and pressure. Having come off a season beyond our expectations, people have put labels on us that are simply not accurate.

“We need to shake off and not care about what some people say.”
