Jackson Martinez’s agent denies talks with Napoli, but admits “every player would like to play for them”.
The Guangzhou Evergrande striker was linked with a move to the Partenopei today, given Arkadiusz Milik is out with a knee injury.
It’s thought the Chinese side may be willing to let the Colombian go, as he’s scored just four goals after a €42m move.
“It’s obviously not easy to adapt to China, but Martinez is doing his work with no problems,” Henrique Pompeo said on Radio Crc.
“It’s clear that his life and his habits have changed and we’re waiting for better days. We don’t know anything about the future, but to change teams we’d need a concrete opportunity.
“Right now Martinez is plying his trade in China, he has a contract with Guangzhou Evergrande and if there is an offer it’ll be discussed and then it’ll be up to the lad to decide.
“I spoke to [Napoli President Aurelio] De Laurentiis a month ago, but we talked about things other than Martinez.
“I don’t like to offer my players, because if the Napoli President wants Jackson then he’ll take him. It’s up to him to establish contact, and that goes for every club.
“Cut his wages? If everyone is open to it then it can be done, but it’s up to the player to decide. If he wants to halve his salary then fine, otherwise nothing happens. The last word is Martinez’s.
“The lad has already expressed his approval of Napoli in the past, I think every player wants to play for them.
“We need to figure out what Jackson wants, and above all if Napoli want Jackson.”
