Robert Lewandowski almost signed for Genoa back in 2010, revealed Coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

In an attack on President Enrico Preziosi, he recounted how Lewandowski and Rodrigo Palacio arrived for a trial in Genoa, and the club boss almost let both players go, finally opting to keep the latter.

"Lewandowski to Genoa? When Diego Milito left, he came for a trial with Rodrigo Palacio, then both almost left," The Coach told Sky Sport Italia. "This is proof of how much the Rossoblu president Enrico Preziosi doesn’t understand football.”

The Polish striker was playing for Lech Poznan at the time and trained with the players in Genoa for a few days, but a deal was not concluded.

He subsequently signed for Borussia Dortmund for a fee of around €5m and has since scored 74 goals in the following four years at the German club.
