Paulo Sousa is pleased that Fiorentina “maturity and character have improved” after a 3-0 Europa League win over Slovan Liberec.

The Viola have one foot in the knockouts, topping Group J with a three-point lead over Qarabag, six in front of PAOK.

“I believed we could find more consistency in our performances, even during a difficult period in terms of results, and our maturity and character have improved.

“Game by game, win by win, that belief builds,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“Last season the way we started was a big surprise to many. This term many players arrived late and had to be introduced gradually, so that adjusted our approach too.

“The opportunity to play in the Europa League gives us the chance to keep everyone competitive and ready to give a hand during the campaign.

“Unfortunately in the early games we went down to 10 men more than once, so that made us have to chase qualification and take different decisions in team selection too.”

Sebastian Cristoforo scored his first goal in a Viola jersey this evening.

“We need certain characteristics in our midfielders to build moves. We are trying to introduce Cristoforo into this position, teaching him to have the right intensity also when defending.”
