Gianluigi Buffon is Italy’s only representative in the list of candidates for The Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016 award.

Buffon has been recognised for a 2016 that saw him win another domestic double with Juventus and captain Italy to the Euro 2016 quarter-finals.

The most-represented team are Real Madrid, whose Champions League triumph last season is marked by five inclusions, followed by Barcelona with four.

For 2016, FIFA and France Football are issuing separate awards for the world’s best player, as they did before 2009.
