Juventus plan January reinforcements with either Rodrigo Bentancur or Axel Witsel, then begin the Marco Verratti siege next summer.
The Bianconeri have struggled in midfield so far this season and, although Claudio Marchisio’s recovery from six months out with a torn ACL is a huge boost, it’s still not enough to be competitive in the Champions League.
According to Tuttosport, the plan is to bring in at least one big name during the January transfer window.
The favourite is Bentancur, as Juventus already have an option for the Boca Juniors talent that they clinched during the Carlos Tevez sale.
Milan tried desperately to sign him over the summer, but Juve stood firm on their €7.5m option and plan to activate it either in January or at the end of the season.
Witsel had already been on the verge of joining Juventus on transfer deadline day before Zenit St Petersburg pulled out.
Even though his contract is due to expire in June 2017, the Russian club still wants at least €6m to let him go early.
Tuttosport note these are all quick fix options, because next summer Juventus will begin an all-out assault on Paris Saint-Germain star Verratti.
His agent has repeatedly stated in recent weeks that he’s frustrated with criticism in France and could walk away, also confirming that Verratti is a Juve fan.
There is interest from many clubs, including Inter, Milan and Carlo Ancelotti’s Bayern Munich.
