The little Argentine has been one of the keys behind Atalanta’s success this season, winning five of the last six Serie A games.

Naturally this attracted interest from other clubs, above all Roma.

“I don’t know, but in football you never know,” Gomez told Mediaset Premium.

“In any case, I have a contract with Atalanta and it doesn’t depend on me if an offer really does come in. I think though that if Atalanta continue on this form, it’ll be difficult to leave, because my objective is to enter the history books of this club.

“We have a great opportunity in the next round, as we are hosting Roma and we always tend to do well against the big clubs. We can win this.

“I really get along with Andrea Petagna, as he is a very complete striker, and we combine well upfront.”

Gomez recently received an Italian passport, but was told that because he already played for Argentina at youth level before he had Italian citizenship, he could not simply transfer over to the Azzurri.

“I still have hope and really did not take that news at all well. I am rather disappointed, but they told me it’s not official yet, so I maintain hope.”
