Atalanta are a revelation this season and President Antonio Percassi praised Coach Gian Piero Gasperini. “It’s a dream.”

The Orobici have won five of their last six Serie A games and soared to fourth place, on a par with Lazio and in front of Napoli.

Can they follow in the footsteps of Sassuolo and qualify for Europe?

“It would be a dream for the fans, but for us an issue of good common sense. They can dream, while we need to keep our feet on the ground,” Percassi told Sky Sport Italia.

“It would be a dream for the fans, but for us an issue of good common sense. They can dream, while we need to keep our feet on the ground,” Percassi told Sky Sport Italia.

Incredibly, Atalanta had been on the verge of sacking Gasperini when he had one win and four defeats in the opening five rounds.

“When the results don’t come, a few doubts do arise and you have to make a decision. We were convinced that going forward with Gasperini was the right thing to do and after the defeat to Palermo I had a meeting with the players.

“I told them the Coach was talented and anyone who wanted to stay here had to follow his guidance, otherwise they could go back home.

“My rapport with Gasperini is excellent. I consider him to be a very intelligent, sensitive and capable person. He revolutionised the squad, putting in six players from our youth academy.

“It’s a dream for us and this has all happened much quicker than expected. Considering how everything is going, I can only tip my hat to him.”
