Leonardo Bonucci was far from satisfied after a 4-0 victory in Liechtenstein, as Italy “weren’t clinical enough and should’ve scored more.”

Andrea Belotti bagged a brace with Ciro Immobile and Antonio Candreva on target in the first half, but there were no more goals after the restart in Vaduz.

“It was a game of two halves. I compliment the team for taking the right approach and trying what we tested during training,” Bonucci told Rai Sport.

“In the second half we were too hasty and not sharp enough, in my view. It’s a good start, as this group has the quality and potential to achieve something important.

“Goal difference can count, so it was important to score more here and we weren’t clinical enough, because we had the chances. This should teach us a lesson, that we must play the entire match with patience, as creating that much the goal should eventually arrive.

“We’re only at the beginning of this journey and have excellent potential.”

How did Bonucci get along with Alessio Romagnoli in central defence, seeing as both Andrea Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini are injured.

“Romagnoli has great qualities, above all a strong character. If he has been playing at Milan and for Italy at that age, it says something, and he’ll be a reference point for the future.

“Naturally, I do miss the others a bit…”

Spain beat Macedonia 4-0, while Albania went down to nine men and suffered a shock 3-0 home defeat to Israel.

“It’s an important result for Israel, we heard about it in the locker room. It’s all in our hands now and we have to make sure we are competitive in every arena.”
