Eder joked that Germany “always seem to change against us, maybe because they fear” Italy.

The Inter striker played on his 30th birthday in a new 3-4-3 system, but Die Mannschaft unexpectedly moved to three at the back again in tonight’s goalless friendly.

“These games are never easy. It’s my third time against Germany and in these two years they are the side who have caused us the most problems,” Eder told Rai Sport.

“Germany always seem to raise their game against us and change systems, maybe because they fear us.

“They are introducing some talented young players, as are we, and we’ve done some very good work in training over these eight days. We worked on different systems and they were positive days.”

Since joining Inter from Sampdoria in January, has Eder lost sight of goal in order to focus on working for the team?

“I don’t know. This is my sixth season in Serie A and I always scored goals. I had good performances, but if the team doesn’t win, then the performance of the individual doesn’t get noticed. That’s normal, especially for a striker.

“I do need to improve, but I really cannot complain. I have to keep working and the goal will come. This was a new system, one we tried for the final 20 minutes against Spain.

“We gave our all and in the end perhaps deserved a little more when Andrea Belotti hit the post.”
