Juventus made an “unacceptable and grave” decision by banning Gazzetta dello Sport reporters from the Pescara game, stated the Press Union.
It’s suggested two representatives working on behalf of the Milan-based newspaper were refused Press passes to tonight’s match at the Juventus Stadium.
This is believed to be in retaliation for a story in La Gazzetta dello Sport alleging Gigi Buffon said opponents “step aside” for Juventus in Serie A – a quote the club and player have denied in very strong terms.

“The Juventus decision to deny access to the stands and Press Room for Juve-Pescara to two colleagues from La Gazzetta dello Sport is unacceptable and grave, because it violates the rights of the colleagues and does not respect the CONI (Italian Olympic Committee, ndr) rules,” read a statement from the Italian Sports Press Union (USSI).
“The two reporters have a CONI Press pass, which guarantees access to sports arenas without discretional power from those who organise the event.
“Juventus, like any club, cannot deny the rights recognised by the CONI to perform one’s profession. USSI ask the CONI, FIGC and Lega Serie A to intervene urgently to avoid a dangerous precedent for Italian sport and freedom of the Press.”
La Gazzetta dello Sport also published an editorial today noting that Juventus “will evaluate on each individual situation” whether to release Press Passes.
