Inter director Piero Ausilio feels they are “on the right track” and warned media not to “take fans for a ride” regarding Leo Messi.

“It’s an important match, just like the others we have been through recently. We must give a sense of consistency, as it’ll be open until the 95th minute, and hopefully win,” Ausilio told Mediaset Premium.

He was asked about a statement from former director Marco Tronchetti Provera about the possibility of signing Messi from Barcelona.

“It’s a dream and dreams are nice to have, but remember there is reality and we mustn’t take the fans for a ride,” noted Ausilio.

“In January we have to fix the squad that has a few too many players in it. My contract renewal is not a problem, I have been at Inter for many years and if I can carry on then I’ll be happy to do so.”

“Stefano Pioli has only just arrived, but I think he needs to continue what he’s doing: work hard all week and maintain a certain balance. At this moment we still lose our reference points during a game and lack intensity at times, but I see the side in training and we are on the right track.

“Pioli chose the same line-up that beat Fiorentina on Monday, because right now these are the players who give us the most guarantees.

“Just because Joao Mario and Gabigol are on the bench doesn’t mean their quality is in any way diminished, because we have equally good players on the field.

“Gabigol is a young interesting player. Joao Mario was a protagonist in the second half of the match with Fiorentina, I think he can be tonight and in future too.”
