Claudio Marchisio urged Juventus to “remain absolutely concentrated” ahead of the last Champions League group game with Dinamo Zagreb.

It kicks off on Wednesday at 19.45 GMT.

“We were coming off a heavy defeat to Genoa and beat an Atalanta side that was in great shape. We have a lot to prove, we’ve dropped points in Serie A and the Champions League this season, so want to keep or increment our advantage.

“There is also the first trophy of the season against Milan, the Italian Super Cup, so we need to remain absolutely concentrated,” said the midfielder in his Press conference.

“Our approach to the Genoa game was wrong, so after a defeat like that it’s natural to ask ourselves a few questions.”

Marchisio was out for six months with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

“If I am here, it doesn’t mean I’m playing tomorrow! I have to say that other than the performances, I am happy with the consistency I have in training, though it’ll take a while longer to be back to my best in terms of recovery and reactivity.

“As soon as I returned to the squad, that hunger I had meant I didn’t feel the fear of putting my leg into a challenge. Of course as the training regime steps up, there are moments of fatigue, but I know from the experience of my teammates that it takes time and this is nothing to worry about.

“I am happy to be training every day, as that is the most important thing.”

Would it be better for Juventus to finish top of the group or second, considering how some of the other groups are going?

“My teammates and I hope to finish first, regardless of the draw. We’ll see what the draw does give us in the end, but our experience shows that even the year we reached the Final, Monaco were the easiest on paper and yet caused us the most problems.

“You know that at this level all teams are well-prepared and what matters is the form we’re in at that moment.”

Roma director Mauro Baldissoni declared it was no “coincidence” that Kevin Strootman received a two-match ban ahead of the games against Milan and Juventus.

“There are rules, there are judges who decide and it’s not for us to comment on these things. We have to focus on the current very important period and remain concentrated on our objectives.”
