“I don’t want to go back over the controversy of the derby, as that is in the past, but it is obvious what happened,” Tare told Mediaset Premium.

“There are regrets after a defeat, but above all over the way it arrived. Even with a cool head after time has passed, you can tell the referee had a bad day.

“We are not seeking alibis, but for a game like the derby you need top level referees. Now we have to react to that setback, give a strong team performance and beat a difficult opponent like Sampdoria.”

Among the controversial incidents in the Derby della Capitale, Strootman squirted water at Danilo Cataldi on the touchline, who reacted and was sent off from the bench.

Roma midfielder Strootman received a two-match ban for simulation, but it was revoked on appeal yesterday.

“Everything that happened started because of his provocation, so I find it absurd that he fell because of Cataldi’s actions. We were denied a penalty too.”

However, Lazio did publicly apologise for the racist comments made by defender Lulic about Roma’s Antonio Rudiger.

“It was in the heat of the moment and he apologised immediately,” said Tare.

This is not true, as Lulic was interviewed by several different media sources, all of them urging him to take it back and he refused.

“We hope there won’t be a ban. The derby did not take away any of our convictions, because the goals were down to two of our errors that should not have happened.

“We are certain the team is in good shape.”
