Higuain left Napoli in the summer to join their arch-rivals Juventus for an Italian-record €90m, just months after he scored the highest number of goals in a single Serie A season, but De Laurentiis argued the Argentine had held his teammates back.

“We have centre-backs in abundance, we signed Maksimovic who cost us a lot.”
