Slaven Bilic has confirmed that Simone Zaza’s recent exile from the West Ham United squad is due to a €20m permanent clause after his 14th appearance.

Zaza has not appeared for West Ham since mid-November after 11 games without a goal, and Bilic made it clear the Hammers were unwilling to keep the Juventus-owned striker beyond his loan spell, which is set to be cut short in January.

“His deal becoming permanent after 14 games? That’s why he hasn’t been part of the squad in recent games,” the manager told Sky Sports UK.
