The Morocco international hasn’t played all season, as he was frozen out following a row at Benfica, and arrived on an 18-month loan.

“I thank Genoa for this great opportunity and I am truly happy to be playing in Italy again,” former Milan man Taarabt told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am ready. I had a difficult year at Benfica, where not only did I not play, but I often wasn’t even allowed on the bench. It was tough, but I don’t want to think about that now, as I am focused on Genoa and the future.

“I spoke to Coach Ivan Juric and he explained that he knows all about me, having seen me play many times. Now it’s up to me to work hard and give the team a hand.”

Last time he was in Serie A, Taarabt scored a goal against Genoa’s city rivals Sampdoria.

“I’d love to score another past them.”
