Former Roma Sporting Director Walter Sabatini believes that Marquinos was his biggest success during his tenure at the club.

The Giallorossi purchased the player from Corinthians for €3m, and subsequently sold him to PSG for €31.4m.

What does the 61-year-old think about the January transfer window in general?

"I've always experienced it with great intensity and stress," Sabatini told Rete7.

"Football is to suffer and man without stress is not suitable in football.

"I've always experienced it with great intensity and stress," Sabatini told Rete7.

"Football is to suffer and man without stress is not suitable in football.

"Sometimes I managed to bring in some good solutions. For example last year at Roma we were lucky, and got two players who have changed the dynamic of the team in [Diego] Perotti and [Stephan] El Shaarawy.

"My biggest success? There have been so many. Perhaps the most spectacular and successful was Marquinhos.

"He was a youngster that we took for €3m. After only one year, he was sold for a hugely exaggerated figure."

Sabatini then confessed that Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa was his biggest regret, as the club sold the centre-back shortly after he scored a goal in the Derby della Capitale.

"Firstly, when my players make a mistake, I feel bad.

"I don’t want to be the D.S. of [Lionel] Messi or [Cristiano] Ronaldo: I am the D.S. of Emerson Palmieri.

"However, it was Yanga-Mbiwa. Mapou had arrived with the proviso that to be made permanent, he had to play 20 games.

I knew that he would never do it, but then he deserved to play.

"After the goal against Lazio he felt completely integrated in the city and in the team.

"I had to sell him for strength and we needed the money: then came the offer of Lyon.

"When I called him into my office to tell him he looked stunned and said nothing. I felt bad."
