Southampton have reportedly offered €5m to take Manolo Gabbiadini on loan with €15m option to buy, but Napoli turned it down.

The Saints are stepping up their attempts to sign the Italy international forward.

According to SportItalia, the Premier League side are hoping they won’t have to make a permanent buy.

The latest offer on the table is a six-month loan at a cost of €5m with option to buy for another €15m at the end of the season.

It is essentially the same deal West Ham United had with Simone Zaza and that’s part of the problem, as the Hammers pulled out six months into the season-long loan to cut their losses.

SportItalia claim Napoli rejected this proposition, as they want €20m for Gabbiadini in cash.

There were earlier reports of an offer worth €16m with €4m bonuses and a percentage of the sell-on fee, but it seems as if Southampton are trying to hedge their bets.
