The Nerazzurri were furious after a series of calls made by whistle-blower Nicola Rizzoli went against them in the 1-0 defeat by rivals Juventus last Sunday, a result which ended Stefano Pioli's team's seven-match winning streak.

As well as turning down two penalty appeals for the away side, Rizzoli called play back for a free kick to be re-taken after Giorgio Chiellini played a careless pass that would have put Mauro Icardi through on goal. Ivan Perisic was also sent off as tensions threatened to boil over late on.

Now, it has been revealed that ahead of Inter's next match, a home meeting with Empoli, fans are being encouraged to wave white handkerchiefs at San Siro to show their discontent with Rizzoli's performance.

"We want to launch a protest after what happened on Sunday," Pietro Gallenzi, a fan leading the protest, told Gazzetta Dello Sport.

"It is also a message to the club to raise awareness. So we ask all Inter fans to show up at the Meazza with a white handkerchief, that will be waved as a sign of protest."
