Torino scraped a thrilling 3-2 victory away to Udinese thanks to Adem Ljajic, but there was awful defending from both sides.
The Friulani had lost three of the four rounds so far, beating only troubled Genoa 1-0, while Toro were still unbeaten thanks to two victories and two stalemates. Silvan Widmer and Stipe Perica were still on the sidelines, but Sinisa Mihajlovic lost Joel Obi, Afriyie Acquah, Antonio Barreca and Kevin Bonifazi.
The last four meetings between these sides have now provided a total of 19 goals.
Kevin Lasagna tried a cheeky back-heel flick, turning the Rodrigo De Paul free kick just wide.
Simone Scuffet made a complete mess of parrying the Adem Ljajic snapshot and Andrea Belotti pounced on the rebound to give Torino an early lead.
Maxi Lopez left his marker for dead with a wonderful turn, but the finish wasn’t up to the same standard, firing straight at the goalkeeper.
Udinese shot themselves in the foot again, as Belotti ran to the by-line down the left and pulled back, but Emil Hallfredsson accidentally deflected it past Scuffet at the near post for an own goal.
Belotti’s angled drive flashed inches past the far stick, but Udinese substitute Jakub Jankto made an immediate impact. He was brought down clumsily by Nicolas Nkoulou and De Paul converted the resulting penalty.
Belotti thought he’d completed his brace with a ferocious volley, but Scuffet made up for the earlier error with a fine save.
Ljajic did extend Toro’s lead at the end of a well-worked team move, as Scuffet parried from Belotti, M’Baye Niang’s rebound was deflected and Ljajic dribbled past a defender to place a snooker shot into the far bottom corner.
Udinese fought back again, Jankto drilling just wide and Kevin Lasagna pulling a goal back, as he cheekily deflected a De Paul cross-shot in with his chest from point-blank range.
Ali Adnan flashed a free kick inches wide and Alex Berenguer tested Scuffet, but deep into stoppages Lasagna rolled across for Jankto’s strike and Cristian Ansaldi flung himself at the ball in a match-saving block.
