Despite an injury crisis, Lazio dominated Verona 3-0 at the Bentegodi with a Ciro Immobile brace and Adam Marusic.
The Aquile’s injury crisis already cost them a 4-1 defeat to Napoli midweek and they came to the Bentegodi without Stefan de Vrij, Bastos, Dusan Basta, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Felipe Anderson and Luis Nani. Hellas finally stopped the rot of three straight defeats with their draw against Sampdoria, but were four rounds without a goal. Matteo Bianchetti and Alex Ferrari missed out.
Lazio had put together three wins and two draws since the most recent Serie A defeat to Verona, back in 2013.
Samuel Souprayen tripped Adam Marusic as he ran into the box, and Ciro Immobile converted the penalty with a fairly central finish.
Immobile was unstoppable for the Verona defence, as he gathered from midfield, completed a give-and-go with Marusic to squirm between opponents on the edge of the area and smash the strike across Nicolas.
Verona had a great chance to get back into the game moments later, but Thomas Strakosha somehow managed to claw a powerful Marco Fossati free kick out of the near top corner.
Moise Kean and Alessio Cerci were introduced for the second half in very attack-minded moves. Marusic nodded over when he should’ve put it back into the centre as an assist, while Nicolas did just about enough on a Senad Lulic strike.
Immobile had two goals and added an assist to his tally, rolling across to the far post for Marusic’s powerful angled drive to squirm under Nicolas.
It was almost 4-0, Luis Alberto hitting the side-netting after a give-and-go with Immobile, but there was only really one team in it.
