Inter extended their winless streak to eight rounds and two months as Eder’s opener was wiped out by Andrea Barberis and brave Crotone.
The Nerazzurri transformed to 4-3-3 in the absence of injured Mauro Icardi, with Dalbert surprisingly given a start at left-back, as they had just four points from six rounds and plummeted down the standings to fourth place, without a Serie A victory since December 3. It was an emotional match for Crotone Coach Walter Zenga, who spent most of his career in the Inter goal.
Matias Vecino controlled with his chest, turned and blasted the half-volley just over the bar, while Marcelo Brozovic was caught in possession only for Marcello Trotta to waste the opportunity.
Inter took the lead when Ivan Perisic earned a Brozovic corner, from which Eder’s header took a deflection off Marco Davide Faraoni to loop into the near top corner. Remarkably, that was the fourth goal Eder has scored in his last three starts.
Crotone often caught Inter in possession, but were unable to make the most of those opportunities, while Eder couldn’t get enough on a Candreva pull-back to surprise Alex Cordaz.
The Calabrese club started the second half strong, Marcello Trotta’s glancing header wide on a Federico Ricci free kick.
Eder went down once he felt an arm on his back, but it wasn’t enough to warrant a penalty.
Crotone were pushing and got a deserved equaliser when Andrea Barberis completed a give-and-go with Trotta to burst into the box and fire home from 10 yards.
Dalbert almost gifted a second moments later, but Samir Handanovic had to be alert on a terrible back-pass. Eder had the chance to restore Inter’s lead on the counter, but came sliding on to a Perisic cross and Alex Cordaz blocked it on the line.
Perisic horribly wasted a great move created by a chipped Joao Miranda pass for Danilo D’Ambrosio, blasting into the stands from a very promising position. Eder had a similar opportunity, deflected over by Federico Ceccherini.
Crotone also threatened on the counter, Trotta’s angled drive flashing across the face of goal to go just wide. Cordaz flew for a fine save on Rafinha, although Eder was offside anyway and it wouldn’t have counted.
In stoppages there was another double opportunity for Perisic, but he saw the first charged down and prodded the rebound wide.
