Juventus earned their biggest win of the season, humiliating Sassuolo 7-0 with a Gonzalo Higuain hat-trick and Sami Khedira brace.

The Bianconeri could temporarily go top awaiting Napoli’s trip to Benevento this evening, but had an injury crisis to deal with, missing Paulo Dybala, Juan Cuadrado, Douglas Costa and Benedikt Howedes. Federico Bernardeschi had to start despite not being fully fit either, but Andrea Barzagli pulled out in the warm-up. Edoardo Goldaniga was suspended for the visitors, so January buys Mauricio Lemos and Khouma Babacar were thrown straight in for their debuts.

Sassuolo had lost all four previous Serie A trips to Turin, scoring one goal and conceding nine.

Andrea Consigli flew to palm a Sami Khedira effort away for a corner, but on the resulting corner Alex Sandro finished off a series of ricochets by rifling in from eight yards.

Gonzalo Higuain ran half the length of the pitch to see his lob slapped out from under the bar and on the resulting corner, Alex Sandro flicked it on for Khedira to tap in from five yards.

However, there was bad news when Blaise Matuidi went off injured to make way for Claudio Marchisio.

It didn’t disturb Khedira, who added a second by springing the very high Sassuolo offside trap on a Miralem Pjanic assist to place an angled drive across Consigli.

Sassuolo finally had their first chance of the game on 36 minutes, Gigi Buffon denying Pol Lirola from close range.

It was a brief respite from the siege, as Miralem Pjanic added a fourth with his ferocious strike from distance on a short Mauricio Lemos clearance.

Higuain’s angled drive flashed just wide, as it really was one-way traffic. Curiously, Max Allegri used up all his substitutions by the start of the second half.

Babacar just failed to get on the end of a smart Domenico Berardi cross, but Higuain added a fifth with his precise angled drive.

Higuain completed his brace by controlling an inspired Marchisio cross-field pass and waltzing round the goalkeeper to deposit into an empty net.

Pipita completed his hat-trick thanks to his smart give-and-go with Bernardeschi, dinking the finish over Consigli from a tight angle.
