The Ducali were fresh from a shock victory over Inter, while the Sardinians beat Atalanta and held Milan to a draw. Leo Stulac was able to start despite flu symptoms, but Lucas Castro couldn’t shake off the bug. Alberto Grassi, Jacopo Dezi, Jonathan Biabiany and suspended Emanuele Calaiò missed out for the hosts, with Leonardo Pavoletti carrying a back problem, allowing Alberto Cerri to start for Cagliari.

Roberto Inglese thought he had given Parma the lead on 14 minutes, but the offside flag was up for his header into the near top corner.

Gervinho started a run from his own half and shrugged off defenders before drilling just wide, and Inglese did get his goal in rather bizarre circumstances.

Filippo Romagna left a Federico Dimarco cross for Alessio Cragno in a misunderstanding between teammates, Inglese pounced and the ball took a double ricochet off the goalkeeper’s chest and Inglese’s face.

Nicolò Barella’s half-volley took a big deflection off teammate Artur Ionita to loop over the bar, but at the other end Cragno flew to palm an Antonio Barillà strike out from under the bar.

Gervinho had threatened this goal in the first half, drilling just wide, but it worked brilliantly straight after the restart. The veteran Ivorian gathered just outside his own penalty area, shrugged off three defenders and the strike bounced in off the inside of the near post.

Rigoni should’ve made it 3-0, but his header into the ground bounced back over, while Ionita stung Sepe’s gloves from the D.

Cagliari tried to get back into the game, although Bruno Alves made a goal-saving block with his body on Diego Farias from 10 yards.

Gervinho tried another dangerous counter, this time Lykogiannis times the tackle well to cut off the ball, while Marco Sau’s back-heel flick on a Darijo Srna cross dribbled just wide.

Parma again wasted a classic counter, as Ceravolo hesitated and allowed Cragno to charge down the finish one-on-one. When Gervinho was substituted five minutes from time, the veteran received a standing ovation at the Stadio Tardini.
