SERIE A MATCH REPORT

Serie A Week 18 - 26 Dec 2018 (17.00 UK)
0 - 0 Udinese
Stadio Paolo Mazza

The spoils were shared at the Stadio Mazza, as ultimately neither side wanted to lose and didn’t take many risks.

This was a relegation dogfight between two teams who expected to do better this season, but there were only two points separating them going into this Boxing Day round. Jasmin Kurtic and Valon Behrami were suspended, while Udinese continued to miss Lukasz Teodorczyk, Samir, Emmanuel Badu and Svante Ingelsson.

Udinese have not beaten SPAL in Serie A since 1960, managing only four draws from their last seven encounters.

Andrea Petagna had a huge chance after 15 minutes, his free kick smacking against the crossbar at the near top corner, then nodded a Manuel Lazzari cross over the bar.

Rodrigo De Paul surged forward and forced an acrobatic save from Alfred Gomis just before the break.

Pasquale Schiattarella’s header was beaten away from point-blank range, but Lazzari went off injured and that sapped SPAL of their creativity.

Dias Felipe smashed just over from a deflected set play with the outside of the boot, but ultimately this was a game both sides were more eager not to lose than anything else.
