Cengiz Under scored one and provided the assist for Bryan Cristante’s header, as Roma conquered Parma 2-0 at the Tardini.
The Ducali were only two points behind going into this final round of 2018, with Bruno Alves back from suspension and Gervinho up against the club he left in January 2016, but Roberto Inglese was ruled out by a stomach bug. Edin Dzeko was back in the starting XI for Roma after more than a month, as only Daniele De Rossi was still out of action.
Parma last defeated Roma in 2012, followed by a draw and four defeats.
Bryan Cristante’s header from a corner flashed across the face of goal, skimming both the far top corner and awaiting Dzeko.
Robin Olsen palmed a dangerous Luca Siligardi strike over the bar when sent clear on goal by a ball over the top on 28 minutes, the Sweden international alert to rush off his line and make himself big.
Dzeko nodded an Alessandro Florenzi cross into the goalkeeper’s arms and Olsen smothered a long-range Leo Stulac attempt, but Justin Kluivert sliding in couldn’t quite get hold of a Cengiz Under cross to the back stick.
Bryan Cristante broke the deadlock eventually, his header at the near post from a Cengiz Under corner floated into the far top corner.
Kostas Manolas went off with a muscular injury and Dzeko wasted a golden opportunity one-on-one with Sepe, but moments later Cengiz Under doubled Roma’s lead. Lorenzo Pellegrini had just come off the bench when he provided the assist, a ball that had meant to reach Dzeko, but ricocheted on to the feet of Under at the back post.
Pellegrini almost created another for Under, the curler this time skimming the upright.
