Antonio Sanabria scored his second goal in as many games for Genoa, cancelling out the Filip Djuricic opener for Sassuolo.
Cesare Prandelli made immediate use of his January signings, as after Antonio Sanabria scored off the bench on his debut, he was given his first start. Ivan Radovanovic and Lukas Lerager arrived on deadline day, but were already thrown into the starting XI. Rolon was suspended, with Andrea Favilli, Oscar Hiljemark and Luca Mazzitelli sidelined. Marlon and Francesco Magnanelli were on the Sassuolo treatment table.
Khouma Babacar volleyed an early Pol Lirola cross over, while Sanabria just failed to get on the end of the Domenico Criscito cross.
The visitors had the better of the game overall and took a deserved lead with a well-worked team move from right to left, via Alfred Duncan and Manuel Locatelli, until Filip Djuricic blasted in at the back post.
Sanabria had a free header, but the Darko Lazovic cross was a little too high and he couldn’t steer it on target. He did score soon after, as Christian Kouame knocked down the cross and Sanabria turned on the penalty spot to drill home with his right boot.
Sensi went off after a knock and replacement Mehdi Bourabia hit a scorcher from 30 metres that dipped viciously, forcing Ionut Radu to palm it round the upright.
Bourabia tested the Genoa goalkeeper again from a tight angle, while Andrea Consigli flew to palm a Kouame curler round the post.
