Dias Felipe bagged a brace along with Sergio Floccari and Jasmin Kurtic strikes, as SPAL crushed Chievo 4-0 to mathematically secure their Serie A status.

Federico Barba and Medhi Leris were suspended, with Mimmo Di Carlo using their relegation to blood some young players for next season in Serie B, giving teenagers Angelo Ndecka and Sergej Grubac their full debuts. SPAL are on the verge of securing their Serie A status for another year, but Francesco Vicari sat out a ban, while Thiago Cionek and Kevin Bonifazi returned. Sergio Floccari got the nod to partner Andrea Petagna.

It took just eight minutes for the visitors to break through, as after Jasmin Kurtic saw his angled drive deflected inches wide off Fabio Depaoli. On the resulting corner, Dias Felipe peeled away from his marker to steer a header into the far bottom corner from 12 yards, the centre-back’s second goal of the season.

Kurtic’s glancing header took a free kick just beyond Felipe at the back post and , but Chievo lost Depaoli to injury. It meant with the substitution that they had two players born in 2000 and two in 2001 on the field simultaneously.

Another corner saw Thiago Cionek’s header skim the far post and teammate Petagna, but Chievo’s two debutants almost combined for an equaliser when Grubac nodded a Ndrecka cross over the bar.

Diousse came on for the second half and within 90 seconds was caught in possession for a SPAL counter, which concluded with Sergio Floccari smashing a left-foot strike into the far top corner from 12 yards on a Lazzari assist.

Incredibly, Felipe had the ball in the net for the second time on another Murgia free kick, controlling at the back post and firing in from close range. It was at first ruled offside, but VAR showed Nicolas Frey was keeping him level.

Adrian Semper kept the scoreline down with his save one-on-one to deny Petagna on the counter, but Emiliano Viviani needed a spectacular reaction save to claw Riccardo Meggiorini’s header off the line.

Instead, SPAL added a fourth late on with Pasquale Schiattarella pulling back from the right flank at the end of a well-worked team move for Kurtic to sweep home.
