Sassuolo earned their first Serie A away win of the season as Filip Djuricic’s explosive strike was the difference in a 1-0 victory over Verona.
The visitors looked to bounce back with Domenico Berardi and Gregoire Defrel against a Verona side missing Miguel Veloso.
However, the match was unable to truly get going as Luca Pairetto booked seven players inside the opening 40 minutes, setting up a bad-tempered encounter.
Despite that, both goalkeepers were tested. Andrea Consigli was first up, pulling off a couple of close-range stops early on.
It was then the Neroverdi’s turn to push on, but Marco Silvestri was on his A-game, denying Jeremie Boga from his own half, before making a superb, one-handed save on a Berardi free kick.
The Gialloblu nearly broke the deadlock straight after the restart, but Marco Faraoni and Verre both hit the woodwork.
That was followed by Sassuolo taking the lead out of nowhere through Djuricic, whose scorcher from outside the box flew past Silvestri.
Pairetto went on to show three more yellow cards, before the far post prevented Alfred Duncan from firing home the hosts’ second goal.
