Serie A Week 12 - 8 Nov 2019 (19.45 UK)
Sassuolo 3 - 1 Bologna
Caputo 34, 75, Boga 68 (S) Orsolini 70 (B)
Mapei Stadium

Francesco Caputo scored his first goals since September as Sassuolo overtook Bologna in the Serie A table with a 3-1 win.

Caputo returned to the tip of Sassuolo’s attack, alongside Jeremie Boga and Italy call-up Domenico Berardi, against a Bologna side who had pace of their own out wide in Andreas Skov Olsen and their own Azzurri new boy Riccardo Orsolini.

The 32-year-old was the difference between the two teams in a drab first half, following through a rebound after Lukasz Skorupski had saved from Manuel Locatelli.

The match sprung into life after the break, with Jeremie Boga finishing off a quick counterattack for 2-0.

The Neroverdi - and possibly Italy - suffered a blow when Berardi was forced off with a knock to his thigh.

Bologna, meanwhile, threatened to come back through Orsolini, who cut the deficit with 20 minutes remaining.

However, the winger had a second goal disallowed for offside and Caputo capitalised, cementing his star status at Mapei Stadium with a fine solo effort.

The ex-Empoli hitman drove on down the left, before coming inside and firing an unstoppable strike across Skorupski.

With that, Sassuolo ended a seven-game run without a victory over the Rossoblu to move above them into 11th.

Bologna, on the other hand, have now won just one of their last nine matches, including four defeats in their previous five.
