Serie A Week 15 - 8 Dec 2019 (14.00 UK)
Torino 2 - 1 Fiorentina
Zaza 21 (T), Ansaldi 72 (T), Caceres 91 (F)
Stadio Grande Torino

It’s Fiorentina who are plunged into the danger zone after a fourth consecutive Serie A defeat, falling 2-1 to troubled Torino.

These teams were in crisis and facing off without several key players. Andrea Belotti, Iago Falque, Sasa Lukic, Lyanco, Vincenzo Millico and suspended Simone Edera missed out for the hosts, giving Simone Zaza a rare start. The Viola welcomed back Federico Chiesa, but lost Franck Ribery, German Pezzella and Kevin-Prince Boateng.

Tension was high at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, with some Granata ultras on strike and others holding up insulting banners aimed at coach Walter Mazzarri and President Urbano Cairo.

There was immediately a worrying sight for Toro fans, as Lorenzo De Silvestri seemed to sprain his knee and had to be carried off the field, making way for Ola Aina.

Zaza’s header flew over the bar from a corner, then there was a double Torino chance, as first Bartlomiej Dragowski beat away a Simone Verdi strike, then Zaza’s rebound was deflected over by Federico Ceccherini.

Moments later, Dragowski stuck out a foot to deny Zaza’s angled drive on the counter-attack. The goal had been coming and Cristian Andaldi skipped past Rachid Ghezzal with embarrassing ease to whip in the cross for Zaza’s diving header at the back post.

Dusan Vlahovic nodded just wide from an Erick Pulgar corner, then there was a double Chiesa opportunity, the first charged down by Armando Izzo and the second finding a Salvatore Sirigu reaction save.

Sirigu was again called into action after Riccardo Sottil skipped away from Nicolas Nkoulou to shoot, but it was Torino who doubled their lead.

Ansaldi confirmed his impressive performance with a daisy-cutter from the edge of the box into the near bottom corner. It squirmed under Dalbert’s leg, which is probably why Dragowski saw it late.

Bremer’s sliding block denied Pedro Rodriguez from six yards, while Sottil almost got on the end of a wayward Pedro effort.

Fiorentina did finally get a goal back in stoppages, Chiesa turning on the turbo to pull back across the face of goal from the by-line, Martin Caceres sliding in to meet it.

The Viola could even have equalised at the death, but Chiesa’s attempt was deflected just wide of the target.
