Fiorentina came out all guns blazing in Lecce to get the result under lock and key early, despite Lecce goalkeeper Gabriel saving a penalty.
Fabio Liverani’s men had dropped back into the bottom three after a draw at Cagliari, so were desperate for points against struggling Fiorentina. Patrick Cutrone was returned to the starting XI and made an immediate impact, as his slide-rule pass allowed Chiesa to spring the offside trap and fire into the roof of the net from a tight angle.
The Viola then received a penalty moments later, when Franck Ribery threaded through for Rachid Ghezzal and he was brought down by Gabriel. However, the goalkeeper made up for the error by saving the Erick Pulgar penalty, the first time the Fiorentina midfielder has failed to convert this season.
Cutrone couldn’t quite get his head to a dangerous cross at the back post, but Fiorentina did double their lead with a splendid Ghezzal free kick into the top corner.
Moments later, it was 3-0, as Cutrone ran on to a long Chiesa ball over the top and beat Fabio Lucioni in a foot race to fire in past Gabriel.
Lecce were unfortunate not to get one back before half-time, as after some shambolic Martin Caceres defending gave it away, Diego Farias could only blast it on to the crossbar.
Fiorentina continued to control the second half, Pol Lirola forcing a reaction save from Gabriel on Ghezzal’s assist, as did Cutrone set up by Ribery.
Lecce did get one back in the final minutes with Yevhen Shakhov, finishing off a pull back from the by-line by Brayan Vera.
